Hailing originally from Dayton, Ohio, Lisa Culpepper has called Yellowstone National Park her home for the past 25 years. Here she combines her passions for Yellowstone, the great outdoors and nature photography.
Lisa enjoys doing anything and everything as long as it is outside! From backpacking and hiking a few hundred miles each summer to cross country skiing, backcountry skiing, and skate skiing another few hundred miles each winter, she has learned one thing about her passion for photography. It is the one hobby that can slow her down, in a most welcome way.
Nature photography allows for a deep intimate connection to nature and furthermore, a way to create and preserve that special singular moment forever! One has to study the light and landscape, practice patience and determination, be present for the moment, understand their subject matter in a most in-depth way in order to capture the essence of the landscape and to anticipate the behavior of wildlife in hopes of capturing the action! Meanwhile one has to be an environmental steward of the land, making sure to follow all guidelines the National Park Service has outlined for us including respecting the wildlife and landscapes.
For the past twenty years Lisa has led photography tours year-round in Yellowstone National Park working for her company TouringWonderland (since 2016), and also with Yellowstone National Park Lodges driving beloved Bombardier and more modern snowcoaches in the winter and Historic Yellow Touring Buses in the summer. Booking a trip with TouringWonderland during May, June, September, and October allows Lisa to share her passion with you during the quieter seasons of Yellowstone, while she travels to Alaska to work as a trip leader during July and August for Alaska Wildland Adventures.
Lisa's photography from Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Alaska, the Southwest and Africa has been featured in local publications (such as Yellowstone Association (now Yellowstone Forever) calendars and Quarterly Magazines, and Wyoming Wildlife Magazine)and can be found at www.CulpepperPhotography.com.
